An extraordinary chance for hope

Rev Dr Olav Fykse Tveit

World Council of Churches (WCC) General Secretary reflects at the Wittenberg Ecumenical Assembly.

In his speech on 25 August, Rev Dr Olav Fyske Tveit talks of signs of hope shown in parts of the world where hope would seem impossible.  Rev Tveit reviewed the work of the ecumenical movement in 2017, describing the present as “an extraordinary ecumenical chance at this point in history.”

The WCC General Secretary speaks of division in the Churches, the continuing existence of injustice, war, persecution and many other dangers of the times we live in. Rev Tveit also reflects on the hope he felt after meeting with Pope Francis. He shares his thoughts of his recent visit to the churches in the Pacific and the hope of the people of the Pacific islands .

We have an extraordinary ecumenical chance at hope."Let us pray that we don’t miss it.” Rev Tviet
