Eastern Orthodox Christians prepare to celebrate Easter

Reverend Tara Curlewis, general secretary of the National Council of Churches in Australia said “Celebrating together is a sign of unity and this year it is particularly significant with the abduction of Archbishop Boulos Yazigi and Archbishop Mar Gregorius Yohanna Ibrahim in Syria last week.”

“Here in Australia the Orthodox Churches warmly welcome other denominations to share their Easter celebrations. In a small way we are showing our unity by sharing in this way together and reflect the desire we all have for justice and peace among nations.”

“On Sunday I hope every congregation will pray for the situation in Syria as well as in Lebanon, in Palestine and Israel, in Egypt, in Iraq and all places where communities live in fear from existing political unrest.”

Curlewis concluded saying “May the light of the risen Lord shine upon the world so that all people may live together in peace.”
