President of the Uniting Church in Australia received by His Holiness Aram I.

Strengthening relationships with churches in the Middle East

Pictured, Stuart McMillan (centre left) with HH Aram I (centre right)On 21 January 2017 Stuart McMillan met with His Holiness Aram I of the Armenian Catholicosate of Cilicia.

The President and His Holiness discussed matters concerning the church and the Christian presence in the Middle East.

His Holiness has a great commitment to ecumenism and inter-faith dialogue, being active in the World Council of Churches (WWC) since 1975. He has achieved much with his work in the Armenian Catholicosate of Cilicia, establishing a special department for ecumenical and inter-religious relations.

It is not surprising that the discussions ended with Catholicas Aram I and Stuart McMillan agreeing to work on firming up the relations between the Middle East Council of Churches and its Australian equivalent, the National Council of Churches in Australia.
