Pacific Conference of Churches

Break the Silence Sunday – Liturgy

The Pacific Conference of Churches (PCC) offers the global community a liturgy for ‘Break the Silence Sunday’, observed the Sunday prior to November 25.

The pdf packet includes background to the commemoration, liturgical and other resources for use prior to, or during the 16Days of Activism (Nov 25 – Dec 10).

Break the Silence Sunday instigated by the Christian Network Talanoa (CNT) in 2013. It is a united attempt to break the culture of silence and shame around violence against women by Church leaders.

The PCC work in partnership with the House of Sarah, to expand this campaign across the Pacific region and global partners.

PCC Member Churches rotate to do a reflection/sermon for Break the Silence. In 2023, the sermon was prepared by Nenase Kavafolau of the Free Wesleyan Church Tonga.

PCC's Just and Safe Pacific communities for Women and Men created these activities:

  • Break the Silence Sunday Liturgy
  • 16Days Devotional for the 16 Days of Activism that was prepared by PCC Member churches
  • 16, 3 mins video stories from or member churches who can share their experiences in the the work on Violence against women/children.
