Week of prayer 22 - 27 March 2021 

A year into the COVID-19 pandemic, the World Council of Churches will observe a week of prayer. 

A global online prayer service, with participation from the eight WCC regions, will be convened on Friday, March 26 beginning 14.00 CET. A collection of resources will be made available on the WCC website by 18 March 2021, in English, French, German and Spanish.

Voices of Lament, Hope and Courage

The World Council of Churches (WCC) has prepared global prayers at the request of its member churches and regional partners to allow the many people affected by COVID-19 to express sorrow and nurture hope for the future.

Reshaping mission and the church during COVID-19

The World Council of Churches Commission on World Mission and Evangelism (CWME) met recently and discussed how COVID-19 has reshaped mission and the church.

"Before COVID-19, for some Christians, the church meant only a building. Now it has become more human, a community of believers.” Dr Rob Hay, head of Learning and Ministry Development in the Diocese of Leicester in the Church of England.

“Great signs of solidarity and fraternity have been shown,” said, Gu Jingqin, representing the China Christian Council.

"Any crisis will exaggerate underlying characteristics as it challenges the fabric of society.” Rev. Philip Woods, associate director for strategy, program and recruitment for Presbyterian World Mission.

Multi-faith commitment to the Thursdays in Black campaign

The World Council of Churches (WCC) and Religions for Peace are speaking out against gender-based violence and committing to widen religious participation in the Thursdays in Black campaign.

 "There is no space for gender-based violence ever to be acceptable or accepted, or indeed for it be condoned through our silences. The more faith communities remain silent, the more we are culpable.” Prof. Dr Azza Karam
