Peaceworker

Quakers Australia's National Quaker Peace & Legislation Committee (QPLC), has announced an opening for this part-time position. The role is aimed at fostering positive engagement with federal Parliamentarians, Parliamentary Offices, and like-minded national organisations to promote peace and uphold human rights within Australia and internationally.

Responsibilities

The Peaceworker will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to engage with key governmental and non-governmental stakeholders in Canberra. This includes making effective representations to federal Parliamentarians and their offices, liaising with national organisations to further peace-related objectives, and participating in national Quaker gatherings to support peace initiatives.

Essential Information

The position offers a part-time commitment of 16 hours per week, with a competitive salary of $720 per week.

The term of the role spans from 30 March 2024 to 30 October 2025, and while being Canberra-based is preferred, applicants willing to travel to Canberra for work will also be considered.

The Quaker Meeting House in Turner, Canberra, will provide a workspace for the successful candidate.

Applicants are not required to be members of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) but must demonstrate a commitment to seeking a world without war and upholding human rights. Experience in building positive relationships with community organisations, faith groups, and federal Parliamentary Offices is highly valued, along with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest, addressing the selection criteria, along with contact details for two references, by 23 February 2024. The successful applicant will be notified by 4 March 2024.
