How We Work

The NCCA gathers together Churches and Christian communities which confess the Lord Jesus Christ as God and Saviour according to the Scriptures. We commit to deepen our relationship with each other and to work together towards the fulfilment of common witness, proclamation and service, to the glory of the one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Ethical Landlords is a free online resource that invites landlords to consider how their rental property could help a person or family afford a secure home. Its development was funded by a grant from National Council of Churches in Australia.

The need is real. Only 5.5% of NSW rentals are suitable and affordable for a working family of four on two minimum wages. For a single adult on the full-time minimum wage, it’s just 1 in 200.

Yet over 90% of NSW rental properties are owned by individual investors with one to three properties. These are everyday people, and some may be part of our own church community. Many are already making a difference, often quietly, by holding the rent steady, offering a longer lease or keeping the rent a little below market.

Some work with their real estate agent to support a current tenant through a tough time, or to welcome a new tenant who might otherwise have missed out on a rental. The Ethical Landlords online resource helps more landlords explore steps like these, where their circumstances allow.
