How We Work

The NCCA gathers together Churches and Christian communities which confess the Lord Jesus Christ as God and Saviour according to the Scriptures. We commit to deepen our relationship with each other and to work together towards the fulfilment of common witness, proclamation and service, to the glory of the one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

The NCCA’s annual Prayers for Christian Unity on 20 May 2026 are online this year and will include a recorded homily/reflection by Bishop Vardan Navasardyan, Primate of the Armenian Church of Australia and New Zealand and the live pre-recording of two hymns by the choir of the Armenian Apostolic Church of the Holy Resurrection in Chatswood, Sydney.

Meeting with Bishop Vardan and Reverend Father Avetis Hambardzumyan, Parish Priest of the Church of the Holy Resurrection on Wednesday 6 May, NCCA General Secretary Liz Stone thanked them for their contribution and said that the prayer service would be the richer for the live hymn recordings from the ancient liturgies of the Armenian Church.

The 2026 prayers and reflections for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity were prepared by the Inter-Church Relations Department of the Armenian Apostolic Church, along with their brothers and sisters of the Armenian Catholic and Evangelical Churches. The resources are jointly published by the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity and the World Council of Churches (WCC). The international prayers have been adapted for use in Australia in May 2026 and can be downloaded from the NCCA website.

The biblical theme for Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in the Southern Hemisphere 17-24 May 2026, between Ascension and Pentecost Sunday is: “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling” (Ephesians 4:4)
