80th Birthday Celebration for Refugee Advocate
How wonderful it was to celebrate the milestone of Rev John’s 80th birthday, surrounded by his beautiful family and many people wanting to express our gratitude to God for John’s life.
Rev John has faithfully served God and God’s people in Sri Lanka and then for 40 years in Australia. There were many wonderful tributes including from people who had spent time in detention at Villawood who spoke of ‘Father John’ who truly has been like a father to them. His care and advocacy has made an huge impact on many lives.
We give thanks for all the ways Rev John has shown faith in action especially in his concern for the most marginalised and oppressed and the countless lives he’s touched. We acknowledge John’s ongoing ministry serving the PCUC Tamil Faith Community, his work in the community and the ongoing contribution he makes serving on the Australian Churches Refugee Task Group.
Thank you to John’s wonderful wife Shanti who has always been by his side and the support of his loving family.
