Act for Peace launched emergency appeals to help respond to the earthquakes in Venezuela and the floods in Nepal. Supporters have responded generously to help local organisation reach impacted communities with much needed humanitarian support.
Nepal Floods Emergency Appeal
Catastrophic flash floods and landslides devastated communities in northern Nepal, destroying homes, roads, bridges and other vital infrastructure. People lost loved ones, homes and livelihoods. Thousands of people need urgent humanitarian assistance, including safe water, food, shelter and healthcare.
Through the ACT Alliance, Act for Peace is supporting DanChurchAid (DCA) and International Nepal Fellowship (INF) as part of the coordinated humanitarian response in Nepal.
DCA and INF Nepal are working to help communities meet urgent needs and begin the process of recovery. Their response includes safe water and sanitation, health services, emergency relief, cash assistance, protection and support to restore livelihoods and essential community infrastructure.
“In the coming days, our priorities will include restoring livelihoods and small businesses, providing cash-based assistance, rehabilitating water and sanitation (WASH) facilities in communities, WASH facilities in schools and health intuitions, and strengthening protection and psychosocial support and identifying alternate shelters for the displaced,” says DCA Nepal Country Director, Dr Samjhana Bista.
Both organisations have longstanding experience in Nepal, with relationships and local knowledge that will help ensure support responds to what affected communities need most.

Venezuela Quakes Appeal
Since the earthquakes struck in June, ACT Alliance humanitarian partners have reached more than 117,000 people across affected communities providing food, healthcare, clean water and sanitation, shelter, and psychosocial support to families who lost their homes or access to essential services.
Through the ACT Alliance, Act for Peace is supporting the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) as it delivers this response on the ground. This work is being delivered alongside local churches and community organisations with a presence in these communities long before the earthquakes hit. That trust has made a real difference on the ground, helping responders quickly identify the families most in need and reach people in remote areas that are otherwise hard to access.
The ACT Alliance General Secretary, Rudelmar Beuno de Faria, visited Venezuela earlier this month and reports that as immediate needs continue to be met, the response is now moving into recovery including ongoing support for people’s mental health as they cope with loss, disruption and the trauma of the past few months.
“What I saw during the visit reinforced the importance of looking beyond earthquake damage alone. In several communities, people were already living with serious deficits in basic services before 24 June. The earthquake did not simply create a new humanitarian crisis; it exacerbated an existing one,” says Rudelmar.
