A Prayer for those Affected by the recent Intense Storms and Flooding
God is our refuge and our strength. An ever-present help in times of trouble. (Psalm 46.1)
Lord Jesus Christ,
Son of the living God,
we bring before you all the people across Asia
– in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Sri Lanka –
who have died because of the recent intense storms
hammering their countries.
Receive their souls into your loving embrace,
and comfort their families and friends left behind.
We particularly pray for those in Sri Lanka
where ABM AID works.
Send your angels to protect them,
and your Spirit to cheer them
and to give them strength for the difficult days ahead.
Give your wisdom to the brave rescue workers
as they strive to reach everyone waiting to be delivered from calamity,
so that they themselves stay safe.
May the authorities coordinate rescue and relief efforts
so that people are helped quickly
and so that the help is what people need.
May your Church be a witness to your compassion and care for all who suffer,
even as its people suffer the effects of the disaster themselves.
May we keep all who have been affected in our prayers
and do all we can to reduce the effects of climate change.
This we ask in your holy Name.
Amen.
