How We Work

The NCCA gathers together Churches and Christian communities which confess the Lord Jesus Christ as God and Saviour according to the Scriptures. We commit to deepen our relationship with each other and to work together towards the fulfilment of common witness, proclamation and service, to the glory of the one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Rev. James Bhagwan, general secretary of the Pacific Conference of Churches and Graham Taylor have completed a 27-day 500 km paddle around Viti Levu, returning to the National Sailing Centre at Suva Point after completing their Paddle for Hope journey at the same location where it began.

They are raising awareness about ending single-use plastic pollution and protecting Fiji’s rivers, coastlines and ocean.

The paddlers visited coastal villages and communities along the way, sharing messages on responsible waste management and ocean protection.

Fiji Environment Ministry staff also took part at several stops, providing information on composting, recycling and proper waste disposal, while encouraging communities to prevent plastic bottles and other rubbish from reaching drains, rivers and the ocean.

The journey also drew attention to the link between plastic pollution, ocean health and climate change. Plastics are largely produced from fossil-fuel-based materials, while their production and use generate greenhouse gas emissions. Plastic entering the ocean adds further pressure to marine ecosystems already affected by climate change.

The message comes at a significant time as Fiji prepares to host global leaders and international delegations in Nadi for the Pacific-led Pre-COP31 from 5–8 October.

The journey reinforces the need for the Pacific to address climate action and ocean protection together, with actions on land eventually affecting rivers and the ocean.
