How We Work

The NCCA gathers together Churches and Christian communities which confess the Lord Jesus Christ as God and Saviour according to the Scriptures. We commit to deepen our relationship with each other and to work together towards the fulfilment of common witness, proclamation and service, to the glory of the one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Australian churches observe the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

During Ascension and Pentecost, Christian churches in the southern hemisphere hold ecumenical services to mark the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.

Around Australia, churches marked the 1700 anniversary of the first Ecumenical Council of Nicaea in unique and memorable services for Christian Unity.

The National Council of Churches in Australia held an online prayer service during lunch break. The Council of Churches Western Australia posted daily prayer resources on Youtube over the eight day period. Queensland Churches Together gathered at St Stephen’s in Brisbane, QLD. In Canberra, churches came together in a Nicene pilgrimage, walking between churches in prayer. The Australian Catholic Bishops Conference released a Statement on Peace to urge prayers for Peace in these troubled times.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) Strongly Condemns the Attack on the Iranian territory

World Council of Churches general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay strongly condemned the Israeli military attack on Iranian territory as “an unlawful act that violates international law and the sovereignty of a nation-state.

“Such aggression endangers the entire Middle East region, reignites cycles of violence, and risks triggering a catastrophic war with global implications,” he said. “It challenges all efforts made through diplomacy and dialogue, and gravely undermines the pursuit of peace, justice, and human dignity.”
