How We Work

The NCCA gathers together Churches and Christian communities which confess the Lord Jesus Christ as God and Saviour according to the Scriptures. We commit to deepen our relationship with each other and to work together towards the fulfilment of common witness, proclamation and service, to the glory of the one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

2025 theme: Pilgrims of Hope

Entries have opened for The Good Oil Writers’ Award, which aims to support and encourage the development of aspiring and published writers.

Entry is free and open to writers aged 18 and over.

The award is an initiative of the Sisters of the Good Samaritan in partnership with Garratt Publishing.

The Good Oil is a ministry of the Sisters of the Good Samaritan. The publication’s editorial vision is to nourish the spirit, stimulate thought, promote social justice, and encourage reflection and dialogue about contemporary issues from a Christian, Catholic and Good Samaritan perspective.

Entries close: 5:00pm AEST on 29 August 2025.

The Award

The winner of the award will receive mentoring by Garratt Publishing to support their writing goals.

A judging panel will award first ($600), second ($400) and third place ($200). A new Encouragement Award, ($250) is being sponsored by Garratt Publishing. The judges will base their decision on the entries which best explore the theme Pilgrims of Hope in their chosen writing style.

Entrants are invited to submit a single piece of writing on the theme Pilgrims of Hope, in the style of a reflection, opinion, profile or a news feature.

Entrants are strongly encouraged to look at past editions of The Good Oil to gain an understanding of the type and style of articles published. View The Good Oil archive here.

Entry is open to residents of Australia, Kiribati, the Philippines and Japan – countries where the Sisters of the Good Samaritan live and minister.
