CCA expresses concerns over recent events
The Christian Conference of Asia (CCA) has released a statement expressing concern for the increase in religious extremism and the continued persecution of religious minorities in South Asia.
“We call on all faith communities to uphold the values of tolerance, mutual respect, and harmony”, CCA General Secretary, Dr Mathews George Chunakara
The CCA is urging governments to take immediate action to safeguard the rights and freedoms of religious minorities across South Asia,
Citing recent incidents in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and India, where a culture of fear and injustice rules, where it is difficult for religious minorities ([Christians, Hindus, and Ahmadis) to live safely. The CCA calls for an urgent need for the protection of all peoples in the region.
The General Secretary of the Christian Conference of Asia, Dr Mathews George Chunakara, stated,
“The CCA condemns the growing wave of religious extremism in South Asia and the violent acts committed against religious minorities in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and India. We urge all governments in the region to take immediate and concrete measures to safeguard vulnerable people and communities, especially religious minorities…. The protection of religious minorities is not just a legal obligation but a moral imperative. Ensuring their rights, dignity, and security is essential for building peaceful, just, and inclusive societies. “
Asian churches also hold these concerns, amid growing anxiety over threats of peaceful coexistence among people of all ethnic and religious backgrounds.
