International Day of Peace 2020

2020 Theme: Shaping Peace Together

International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. A day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire.

VICTORIA

Virtual UN Peace Day Event: Shaping Peace Together - your peace, our peace, world peace

You are invited to join a peace-filled event so relevant to these times, celebrating and reinforcing compassion, courage and hope within the community.

Leaders from faith and non-faith backgrounds will come together, in unity, to each light a candle for peace and hold a meditative space to gentle guided commentary and music.

Opening and Closing Reflections to the event will be given by The Honourable Linda Dessau AC, the Governor of Victoria, and Melbourne Lord Mayor Sally Capp.

When: Monday 21 September 2020

NEW SOUTH WALES

You are invited to celebrate this day by joining an Interfaith Prayer Service.

The Occasional address will be given by Dr Sue Wareham, President of the Medical Association for Prevention of War (Australia), and is a board member in Australia of ICAN (the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons) which was awarded the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize. 

Representatives from Aboriginal, Armenian Apostolic, Bahai, Brahmakumaris, Buddhist, Catholic, Coptic, Hindu, Islamic, Jain, Jewish, Mandaean, Sikh, Sufi, Uniting Church and Zoroastrian Communities will offer prayers for peace, and there will be time for silent reflection. There will be some musical items.

There will be opportunity to light a candle for Peace during the service. So please keep a candle ready.

Between War and Peace: Australia’s Past and Future.

Professor Joseph Camilleri invites you to join this World Peace Day event.

The aim of the event is to stimulate conversations on the defining issues of our time, across the generational and cultural divides. 

Guest speakers are the distinguished scholar Prof Allan Patience and national President, Medical Association for Prevention of War Dr Sue Wareham.
