Gifts for Peace

Mother's Day Sunday 8 May 2022

Give a gift that gives back to mothers living as refugees and help create a world where everyone belongs.

It's Mother’s Day this Sunday and a chance to celebrate the mothers in our life who are there for us, making us smile and supporting us.

This Mother’s Day you can honour a Syrian refugee mother like Amena*.

Amena lived in Syria in a large house with her husband and sons. They had a grape orchard and olive trees, and they would sell some of the fruit; her husband also worked in construction. Then her home was totally destroyed during the war and they left Syria without any of their possessions.

After fleeing to Jordan, Amena and her family thankfully received support from Act for Peace’s local partner, the Department of Service to Palestinian Refugees (DSPR), receiving food ration packs. It is through her involvement in the DSPR Home and Garden workshop however, that Amena empowered her life and that of her family. The training course has given Amena the vital skills and tools to utilise a home garden, to plant and grow produce to help supplement her family’s food rations, and the opportunity to sell excess produce to generate an income for her household.

Amena is grateful for the support they receive from DSPR, she shared:

"We thank them so much for this great support, and we wish them happiness and affluence, even more than we wish for our own selves. I wish all the best for them."

This Mother’s Day, help refugee mothers transform not only their own lives, but the lives of their families and communities.

CHOOSE YOUR GIFTS

  • $29 - you can help give another mother just like Amena the gift of skills and knowledge by attending the Home and Garden workshop. The Kitchen Garden gift can provide a mum with the vital skills and tools she needs to start planting and growing her own fresh produce.
  • $38 - you can give a refugee woman in Ethiopia the gift of a Dignity Kit. This life-changing gift will not only provide women and girls with practical items to live with dignity, but it will also bring them a glimmer of hope.

There’s also a range of gifts which support families who are affected by conflict and disaster all around the world. Behind each of these gifts are people whose lives have been impacted by the generosity of people like you. With each gift purchase you also have the option to receive a beautiful download and print at home card or an e-card.
