Safe Church Program

Cultural Safety

A report released by Australia’s National Research Organisation for Women’s Safety (ANROWS) reveals the failure of child protection, education, and health services to promote healing and recovery for First Nations children who have experienced domestic and family violence.

The report, You Can’t Pour from an Empty Cup, found First Nations voices have been “sidelined from decision-making, with devastating effects”.

The report is an initiative by Queensland's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Protection Peak in partnership with ANROWS and Australian Catholic University.

The full report and the framework can be read here.

This training is crucial in protecting all people within our churches but especially those most vulnerable. Training included practical activities to prepare the trainees to begin co-presenting these workshops around the state.

Pope dedicates March as month of prayer

Pope Francis has dedicated this month to praying for victims of abuse, saying simply asking forgiveness is not enough, but the Church must put victims first and avoid cover-up.

“...it’s not enough to ask for forgiveness.”

“The Church cannot try to hide the tragedy of abuse of any kind.” Pope Francis
