ACRT Position Vacant

National Coordinator, Australian Churches Refugee Taskforce (ACRT) 

The ACRT has been established to promote a shared Christian vision of compassion and hospitality for asylum seekers and refugees.

The National Coordinator role relates largely to networking and advocacy in Australia. The ideal candidate should have prior experience in Australia, in the refugee, asylum seeker or settlement service sectors.

Employment basis: 0.6 FTE

Location: Sydney or Melbourne or Brisbane

Contract term: 3 years 

Work with a variety of Internal and External Stakeholders:

  • NCCA Board
  • ACRT Executive
  • ACRT Members
  • ACRT Steering Committee
  • State and Territory Councils of Churches

and External Stakeholders:

  • Refugee Council of Australia
  • Community Refugee Sponsorship Initiative (CRSI) and related agencies
  • Asylum seeker and Refugee sector in Australia
  • Department of Home Affairs
  • Australian Human Rights Commission
  • UNHCR

Deliver the agreed Terms of Reference of the Taskforce, which are: 

  • to bring the churches together as and when it is appropriate and where it makes sense, to offer a strong moral voice in this sector;
  • to assist with communication and information sharing with member churches and church agencies;
  • to assist with the operationalisation church-based initiatives; and
  • to facilitate the communication of the work that Australian Churches and agencies do with asylum seekers and refugees.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • QUALIFICATIONS
    Degree in Social Work, Social Sciences, Theology, Legal Studies/Law or equivalent.
  • EXPERIENCE
    At least 3 years government or non-government experience in Australia, in the refugee, asylum seeker or settlement service sectors. Other equivalent experience may be considered.
  • REPORTING AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS
  • ORGANISATION, INTERPERSONAL AND PEOPLE MANAGEMENT SKILLS
  • COMPUTER SKILLS
