Greetings from the National Council of Churches in the Philippines!
The National Council of Churches in the Philippines, Ecumenical Bishops’ Forum, Iglesia Filipina Independiente, Manila Episcopal Area and Philippine Central Conference Board of Church and Society of the United Methodist Church, United Church of Christ in the Philippines, and Ecumenical Voice for Human Rights and Peace in the Philippines (EcuVoice) will hold the International Ecumenical Solidarity Gathering for Human Rights and Peace in the Philippines. This online activity will be on October 7, 2021 at 7:00-8:30 in the evening (Philippine Standard Time)[1], the day on which the UN High Commissioner on Human Rights will report to the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on the implementation of its October 2020 resolution on technical cooperation and capacity building for the promotion and protection of human rights in the Philippines.
You may recall that while the said resolution does not exonerate the Philippine government from accountability for its many human rights violations among its citizens, it falls short of expectation and does not answer our fervent call for an independent international investigation. With the UNHRC resolution falling short of expectations, the International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines (ICHRP), in cooperation with human rights and faith-based groups within the country, decided to lead Investigate Ph, an independent initiative that looked deeper into the real situation. Investigate Ph was able to get the support of church leaders from the international ecumenical community and successfully released its first and second reports in March and July this year. The final report of Investigate Ph was released on September 13 and we want to share the results with the global ecumenical community in our virtual gathering (https://www.investigate.ph/media/final-report-event). https://www.investigate.ph/media/final-report-event
