In a Media Release made on Friday 21 February, The National Council of Churches in Australia has stated that it welcomes the Opposition's announcement made at midday of the same day.
We welcome the Leader of the Opposition, Hon Anthony Albanese’s announcement today regarding a 2050 Zero Emissions Target.
Our hope and prayer is that this will soon be a bipartisan commitment.
Our hope and prayer is that this will soon be seen as a nation- building opportunity, integrating the efforts of Local, State Governments, the Business sector as well as Faith groups like ourselves.
Not a day is to be wasted.
We are stewards of God’s beautiful creation.
With childlike wonder and appreciation for all of God’s creation and with our best adult wisdom, we must work together to reach zero emissions as soon as possible.”
