Linking Across The Tasman

DOV in Australia meets DOV in Aotearoa New Zealand

linking across the Tasman

DOV coordinators Robyn Cave and Jon InkpinDOV in Australia is seeking to work closely with others across the globe and not least Australia's neighbours in Aotearoa New Zealand.   At the end of September 2003, Jon Inkpin visited Aotearoa New Zealand at the invitation of CCANZ (the Conference of Churches in Aotearoa New Zealand) to share DOV initiatives on both sides of the Tasman Sea and to look at continuing cooperation, not least in shared peacemaking in the Asia-Pacific region.

Highlights of the visit included hearing part of the powerful Parihaka story of nonviolent Maori resistance, playing the CCANZ DOV boardgame The Incredible Journey, being part of the CCANZ conference's pilgrimage through Christchurch visiting sites of past and present violence and hope, and meeting so many people working imaginatively for peace and reconciliation.

Aotearoa New Zealand is producing some impressive work on the Decade to Overcome Violence.
