White Ribbon Day - 25 November

United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

White Ribbon Day logoThe NCCA encourages Australians to support this International day.  For White Ribbon Day is the largest effort by men across the world, working in partnership with women, to end men's violence against women.  The day relies on support from men and women and their organisations and from business, industry and government.

Wearing a white ribbon is a personal pledge to not commit, condone nor remain silent about violence against women and children. White ribbons are worn by men who want to encourage other men to speak out against violence towards women, and by women who are supporting men.

The Revd.Prof.James Haire, President of the NCCA, writes the following message on behalf of the NCCA:

On behalf of the National Council of Churches in Australia, I strongly commend White Ribbon Day. The issue of the abuse of women and children is something central in public consciousness now. The Churches are very aware of the issue, and have sought repentance and renewal for their complicity in this scourge of the abuse of human rights, and illegal activity. The Churches have sought to do as much as they are able to help in the restoration of those who have been abused. The beginning of that process is through public awareness, so I strongly support this poignant celebration of White Ribbon Day.
