Serbian Orthodox Church

Serbian Orthodox Church – Bishop elect of the Metropolitanate of Australia and NewZealand

In May 2015 the Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church, meeting at the Patriarchate Palace in Belgrade elected Archimandrite Siluan (Mrakić) as Bishop of the Metropolitanate of Australia and New Zealand.

On 7 August he will be consecrated bishop at the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Holy Archangel Michael in Belgrade. On 22 October he will be enthroned in St George Historic Cathedral in Cabramatta by His Grace Bishop Longin of New Gracanica-Midwestern America.

Archimandrite Siluan was born and baptized in Sydney. He completed his primary and secondary education in Parramatta. He entered the Seminary of St Peter of Cetinje in Montenegro in 1995, before attending the Theological Institute of the Orthodox Theological Faculty in Belgrade, where he graduated in 2005.

In 2012 he undertook postgraduate studies at St Andrews Greek Orthodox Theological College, under the jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, in his hometown of Sydney. His studies concluded with the writing of a master’s thesis in the field of patrology, titled "A Review of the new criticism of the Neo-patristic Synthesis: Insights from Father Justin Popovic"

In addition to the English language, he is fluent in Russian and Serbian.
