NATSIEC YOUTH PROJECT

What is the NATSIEC Youth Project?

Rather than stretch the limited resources of NATSIEC by attempting new initiatives, this project aims to help existing services in their work. The project will enable NATSIEC make a contribution towards meeting the needs of Church agencies working with at risk* Indigenous youth. At the same time, we will attempt to understand what Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander youth think about the Church and spirituality in order to assist churches to meet the needs of these young people. This project will take place throughout 2004.

AIMS

  • Identify the needs of church organisations working with “at risk”* Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander youth.

  • Identify how NATSIEC and the Churches can contribute towards meeting those needs.

  • Research Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander young peoples' spirituality and relationship to the church.

*at risk - meaning youth who are facing homelessness, unemployment, substance abuse, mental illness etc.
