Bishop Mabo Dinner

This was the first event in NATSIEC's "Light of Australia" series: talks given by prominent Indigenous Church leaders about aspects of Indigenous spirituality.  This evening, held on Tuesday the 8th of July at the Darlington Centre in Sydney, featured Bishop Saibo Mabo, an Anglican Bishop from the Torres Strait.  Bishop Mabo used the image of the basket to describe how different cultures each have their particular gifts to bring to faith:  "For our Islander and aboriginal Church to be strong, we have to learn how to let God speak through our culture. " The audience was an incredibly diverse mixture of youth, church leaders and social-justice activists.   Certainly, it was a great place for the "Light of Australia" series to begin.
