RECONCILIATION

NATSIEC Policy Statement

True Reconciliation is a partnership. At present, the approach of non-Indigenous Australia is like one-way traffic. Too often, initiatives and programs are created with little or no input from Indigenous people. A more consultative approach is needed which respects the perspectives and experiences of Indigenous people, otherwise we risk recrreating the exclusion and oppression of the past.

Furthermore, true reconciliation is a continuous presence. It is not an idea that we refer to from time to time on national holidays; it is not constituted by featuring Indigenous performances during our celebrations; it is present when Indigenous people have a voice and a place in all areas of Australian life.
