Working with Children and Working with Vulnerable People Checks
These checks are vital for all involved in ministry to children and the vulnerable. Each state and territory has different requirements and expectations relating to who requires one. These requirements and expectations change, so it is important to ensure that you are aware of the requirements for your church community. Ignorance is not an excuse for not ensuring that people have the correct credentials to work with children or the vulnerable.

Victorian Working with Children Check (WWCC) update
Changes come into effect in Victoria from 1st August 2017. Working with Children Checks will be needed in some situations where they were not previously required. The changes are being made to clarify and simplify the requirements of holding a Check and implement key recommendations from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. People undertaking child-related work or volunteering whose contact with children is supervised by another person will now be required to hold a Check themselves. Be aware that ‘direct contact’ with children now includes written and verbal contact, such as email, phone and social media, in addition to face-to-face contact.
