Churches Support Flood Victims
As the flood waters continue to rise the Churches have established appeals for the Queensland flood victims. Donations may be made through the Anglican Church Rockhampton Diocese, the Catholic Church through Vinnies Qld Flood Appeal, the Churches of Christ through Care Community Foundation, the Lutheran Church Queensland District, The Salvation Army in conjunction with Woolworths and Big W stores and the Uniting Church through Lifeline Queensland. Appeals have also been launched to support the 51 NSW communities recently declared natural disaster areas.
Plans are being implemented by the government, emergency services and the churches to provide relief work and support for the thousands of people affected by the floods in Queensland. The National Council of Churches in Australia (NCCA) continues to express concern and prayers to the people of Queensland and Northern NSW.
“The generosity of Australians to support those in times of tragedy is tremendous” said Reverend Tara Curlewis, NCCA General Secretary. “The NCCA has received many calls of people wanting to assist or to donate to flood victims. We are pointing them to either their own church or the Queensland Premier’s Appeal.”
Wisdom has come from previous disasters and Australians are encouraged not to send goods to flood affected areas rather to donate through one of the recognized Flood Relief Appeals.
The churches will provide emergency assistance to flood affected victims who have missed out on the immediate help they need as well as providing for longer-term pastoral support, rehabilitation and recovery programs for individuals, families and communities devastated by floods.
The generosity of Australians is needed at this time to support flood affected communities in NSW and Queensland. Information as to how to donate is best accessed from a Church or the Queensland government web sites. To DONATE
