Not Enough Money ... Nowhere to Live ...
. . . . . . . . .No Place To Belong ... Not Enough Time ...

This year's 6 page resource shares 4 Australian stories - 4 faces of poverty.  Please reflect with your friends, church or community group, Bible study group or any other gathering.  Give voice to the prayers.  Learn from the storytellers.  Do whatever you are able.

"Jesus demonstrated there are many ways to live in solidarity with those who are vulnerable - sharing meals, making friends, challenging attitudes and structures that breed and perpetuate poverty." Revd John Henderson, General Secretary NCCA

SOCIAL JUSTICE NETWORK MANDATE

Established by the NCCA in 1996, this Network is mandated:

  • to provide a means by which member churches inform each other of work done, work under way and work in prospect, and help each other to a deeper understanding of the methodologies they use in seeking to explicate the implications of the gospel for the concern for social justice in Australia;
  • to facilitate co-operation between the churches, and where appropriate their joint action, as they seek to give prophetic leadership to each other and the Australian community through their commitment to promoting justice, peace and the integrity of creation;
  • to advise the NCCA on actions which might appropriately be taken by the Council and/or severally by the member churches.

The Network has undertaken particular work on a number of specific issues: including housing policy and employment policy. The first led to a statement adopted by the NCCA Executive in November 1997. The second led to a position paper entitled "A Covenant for Employment" adopted by the NCCA Executive in July 1999.

The Chairperson of the Network is the Revd Dr Ann Wansbrough.
