Safe Church Project
An Important Moment in our Ecumenical Journey
The Safe Church Project is has grown since October 2007 out of what was previously the organising group for the Safe as Churches? Consultations I, II & III. These consultations were initiated to bring Church personnel together to look at the prevention of sexual abuse and misconduct in Australian churches.
The term Safe Church Project (SCP) takes in a range of projects, initiatives and activities which have relevance to, or bearing on, the concept of 'Safe Church' and what we generally describe as Professional Standards.
The Safe Church Project Working Group (SCPWG) is an oversight group for Safe Church Projects:
- It retains oversight of the Safe as Churches? Conferences.
- It has an evolving set of responsibilities for all Safe Church emerging initiatives.
The SCPWG also has in interest in two related initiatives, for which it does not have direct responsibility:
- State based Safe Church Networking Groups;
- The Safe Church Training Agreement.
The National Council of Churches is very pleased to be able to facilitate and lead this project, and we hope these resources can be a blessing to the people of God as we learn to deal with the reality of abuse even in our own midst, and respond with love, justice and compassion to all people. |
