Aims Values & Objectives

Aim

The SCTA resources and facilitates collaborative, sustainable, quality accessible holisitc Safe Church ministry training within the Australian Christian church context - towards safer Australian churches.

Holistic Safe Church ministry is finding the balance between prevention and response to abuse and misconduct issues, whilst also fulfilling our pastoral, legal (child protection, duty of care, due diligence), insurance, risk management, denominational (structural) and ethical obligations. The aim of holistic Safe Church ministry is abuse free, harm free, person valuing and respecting churches.

Values

  • The protection of the rights of all people  through the promotion of safe (abuse free) and friendly (person valuing and respecting)           ministry environments. This includes special care for children and vulnerable people.
  • Helping Christian communities to become safer for sharing in ministry,
  • Recognition and respect for the differences between organisations and the states
  • The embracing of commonality and National Standards of good practice in relation to holistic Safe Church ministry.
  • A focus on leaders having a Christ-like attitude and behaviour in Christian ministry (appropriateness for service).
  • Objectives

    To make Australian Churches safer places the SCTA will:

    • provide National Standards for Safe Church’ programs (quality).
    • resource and facilitate the ongoing task of educating leaders in holistic Safe Church ministry (sustainable).
    • resource and facilitate the training of greater numbers of leaders so as to minimize the risk of the potential for, and intensity of, abuse cases and duty of care failures (accessible).
    • increase awareness of the every member -shared responsibility of holistic Safe Church ministry.
