MIPH Education kit
The NATSIEC Make Indigenous Poverty History education kit has been designed to generate discussion about many of the complex issues involved in understanding and ending Indigenous disadvantage. The aim of the education kit is to provoke thoughtful dialogue and generate ideas for action, either personally or as a group.
The kit is comprised of 9 worksheets; the program begins with an overview of the Millennium Development Goals and the need for the Make Indigenous Poverty History campaign. Each subsequent worksheet relates to a Millennium Development Goal and presents some facts and figures as well as highlights some solutions and programs. We have provided discussion points to get your discussion underway and some ideas for action.
Ideally, you would use these worksheets in a group setting; perhaps your social justice group could meet once a week for 9 weeks and work through a sheet a week. Teachers will find the worksheets useful to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the current situation for Indigenous Peoples. Used in conjunction with the website this resource will provide continuously updated information and links to relevant commentaries and opinions.
The worksheets are provided free of charge when downloaded from the website (see below). They can be copied for distribution amongst your class or group. They are best printed or photocopied onto A3 sheets.
