The Women's Prayer Flag Project
WHAT: The Prayer Flag Project is collecting women's prayers for the world on cloth flags. The prayer flags will be hung up together at community events, particularly International Women's Day gatherings.
WHY: Sharing a prayer with God can change us. Acts of solidarity can transform our communities. [Tibetan Prayer flags are an ancient expression of prayer, a good idea, worth borrowing.]
WHAT TO DO: 1. Make a cloth flag using cotton fabric approx 22cm x 30cm. Hem or over-lock the edges of the flag. (Single colour, lightweight/sheer fabric is good for flapping in the wind) 2. Reflect on your hopes and dreams for the world. Connect with God. 3. Use words or images to 'capture' your prayer. Use language you are most comfortable with. 4. Use permanent pen, paint, fabric crayon or stitching to put your prayer on the cloth flag. 5. Make a paper copy of your prayer flag. (It is about A4 size if you can photocopy it.) 6. Send your prayer flag and the paper copy in an envelope to: W.I.S.E., NSW Ecumenical Council, Locked Bag 199, Sydney, NSW 1230.
WHO: The Women's Prayer Flag Project is a joint activity of the Gender Commission (National Council of Churches in Australia, check www.ncca.org.au.) and W.I.S.E. (Women in Solidarity Ecumenically). For more information phone NSW Ecumenical Council 02 9299 2215 or www.nswec.org.au
