:: Strathfield Home for the Aged ::

The National Council of Churches in Australia (NCCA) through its Commission for Christian World Service (CWS) provides ethno-specific aged care at the Strathfield Home, in the inner western suburbs of Sydney. The Home was established in 1963 by the Australian Council of Churches as a hostel for elderly Russian refugees who were brought to Australia as part of the post-war resettlement scheme. The Home provides high quality care for 35 residents, predominantly of Russian and Eastern European origin, and is funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing.

Festivals of Russian, Chinese and European origin are celebrated every year with residents, their families and friends joining in the celebrations. Excursions for concerts, bus trips and picnics are part of the regular program, and fetes and parties in the grounds of the Home involve members of the local community. A strong link is maintained with the Russian Orthodox church in Strathfield.

The Board of Management for the Home is appointed by CWS and includes representation from the NCCA and local churches. In June 2003 the Home was re-accredited by the Aged Care Standards Association for continued service to its clients in the wider ethnic community.
