The following prayer points are adapted from Yass in southern NSW, where joint prayer meetings have been held on the banks of the Yass River for the last 3 months, led by local Baptist pastor Terry Logan. He writes, “The most important thing we can achieve (through this national day prayer) is for God's people who are called by His name to acknowledge we have a spiritual problem in Australia and it is not just our farmers that have the problem.”

  1. Pray for the rain which farmers desperately need.
  2. Pray for farming families. There is a lot of stress on families in drought affected regions of the country.
  3. Pray for God’s Spirit to move the hearts and minds of Australians wherever we are, in cities, towns, communities, and churches, that we may discern God’s will in all this and act on it.
  4. Pray for farmers who are forced to consider a ‘sea change’, having to leave the land, relocate, and retrain in new careers.
  5. Pray for rural support workers and communities. Almost every day now in NSW a farmer is committing suicide.  Support networks include local police, doctors, family, friends, rural counsellors, town councils, financial institutions, insurers, local businesses, and the clergy.
