How do I act for peace?

Make a lasting difference in our world by becoming an act for peace Regular Giver. By giving from as little as $1 a day, you can join Australians everywhere in working for a world at peace. Your generous gifts make this vital work possible, so if $1 a day ($30 / month) is out of reach for you, please consider giving whatever you are able to share.

$1 dollar a day can:

  • help provide a rainwater tank in Zimbabwe
  • supply 6 month’s food for a family in a Burmese refugee camp
  • clear 300 square metres of landmines in Cambodia
  • provide sewing machines and materials for a group of five people in Timor-Leste

Why act for peace?

act for peace (formerly Christian World Service) works with partners to achieve real and lasting peace. For example, our partners in Sudan are:

• reducing poverty by running health clinics, schools, water and micro-credit schemes

• protecting 250,000 displaced people in Darfur camps

• preventing conflicts through disarmament and peace initiatives (such as the Wunlit Peace Agreement)

• empowering communities through training and education projects.

Living on less than $1 a day is the United Nations’ definition of extreme poverty. There are 300 million people worldwide living on less than $1 a day in conflict-affected regions. act for peace works in these areas to break the cycle of extreme poverty and conflict.

Peace Mail Volume 4, Issue 6: Food Security is vital in Zimbabwe

My name is Essie Khumalo. I am a lead farmer living in Malandu West ward in Nkayi district of Zimbabwe. This is my second year in conservation farming, which I learnt about from Christian Care. I have five children and two attend school. In my first year, I set up a 30 x 50m plot. I heavily rely on the orchard I have in my homestead and farming as source of livelihood.
